هذه القصة تشير عادة إلى برنامج تجسس واسمه "أكبر" (Acoustic Kitty) الذي طورته وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية الأمريكية (CIA) في الستينيات. تم تدريب قط ليتم تجهيزه بمعدات تسجيل الصوت والاستماع وزرعها داخل جسم القط. تم اختيار القط لأنه من المفترض أن يتحرك بشكل طبيعي في المناطق المستهدفة، مثل السفارة السوفيتية في واشنطن العاصمة، ويمكنه التجول دون إثارة الشكوك.
ومع ذلك، تم إلغاء برنامج "أكبر" بعد عدة محاولات فاشلة لاستخدام القط في عمليات التجسس الحقيقية. وكان أحد هذه الأخطاء هو أن القط تعرض لحادث سيارة في أحد المحاولات، مما أدى إلى موته.

على الرغم من أن برنامج "أكبر" لم يكن ناجحًا، إلا أنه يعتبر مثالًا على الأساليب المبتكرة التي يستخدمها محللو الاستخبارات والمخابرات لجمع المعلومات والتجسس.
