قصة مسمار جحا هي قصة مشهورة عن دهاء جحا وذكائه، تروي أن جحا كان يمتلك داراً، وكان يريد أن يبيعها، ولكن كان يرغب في أن يحتفظ بشيء منها، ففكر في حيلة، ووضع مسماراً في حائط الدار، ثم عرض الدار للبيع، واشترط على المشتري أن يترك له المسمار في حال شراءه الدار.
وافق المشتري على الشرط، واشترى الدار، وفرح جحا لأنه احتفظ بشيء من داره. ولكن بعد فترة، بدأ جحا يأتي إلى الدار كل يوم، ويسأل المشتري عن المسمار، ويطمئن عليه، مما أثار استياء المشتري، وبدأ يشعر بالضيق من جحا.
ولكن جحا كان يصر على المجيء كل يوم، ويستغل وجوده في الدار ليأكل من طعام المشتري، ويشرب من شربه، مما زاد من استياء المشتري.
وفي أحد الأيام، قرر المشتري أن يتخلص من جحا، فخرج من الدار وهرب، وترك الدار بما فيها.
وهكذا، نجح جحا في الاحتفاظ بداره، وتخلص من المشتري.
وأصبح هذا المثل يضرب في الأمثال عند استخدام الحجج الواهية للوصول إلى الهدف المطلوب.
وهناك بعض الروايات الأخرى للقصة، تختلف في بعض التفاصيل، ولكن المعنى العام للقصة يبقى هو نفسه.
